Grow your own mushrooms! Shiitake (Lentinula edodes) are both a gourmet, & and a medicinal variety. Native to east Asia, they are used extensively in Japanese & Chinese cooking. They add umami to any dish and have a distinctive meaty and nutty flavour. Studies suggest that eating shiitake can moderate blood sugar, reduce cholesterol & lower the risks of getting cancer. Our hardwood fruiting blocks are innoculated and allowed to partially myceliate prior to shipping. Watch as the mycelium cultivate your block, then slice open the wrap to allow the mushrooms to grow.
